I-HOS Arts Festival

The K'ómoks First Nation and The I-HOS Arts Gallery Proudly Presents

Comox Valley residents and visitors of all ages are invited to experience this Festival that brings together K'ómoks First Nation Artists and many other art communities from the Comox Valley. Activities and exhibits will take place at the I-HOS Gallery and surrounding grounds starting with an opening ceremony at 11:45pm and ending with a closing ceremony at 4:00pm on Saturday, July 28th, 2007.

General Events

Artists Exhibits and Marketplace

Works by First Nations and Comox Community Artists will be on display in the Exhibit and Marketplace area just outside the I-HOS Gallery. Many of the artists will be present to demonstrate and interpret their work. Many pieces will be on sale.

Kids Craft Studio

Fun hands-on craft opportunities for kids will be available including mask making and beadwork. Their very own studio is located under the tents in front of the portable (Suggested donation of $2.00 per child artist). Kids are welcome to experience the special events below too!

Food Pavilion

Enjoy First Nations foods with a fun twist, along with hot and cold drinks and other treats at the Food Pavilion. Available beside the main building at the center of the grounds.

Art Auction

Many exhibiting artists have generously donated selected creations for a silent auction to be held near the Food Pavilion. Bidding will take place from 11:45am and will close at 3:30pm. Successful bidders will be announced at the 4pm closing ceremony from the Festival stage.

Special Events

(Times are subject to change in order to maintain sequence of events)

11:45am

Join us at the festival stage for an Opening Ceremony performance by K'ómoks First Nation Dancers (no charge).

12:30pm

Join us for a "Play" Potlatch celebration. This special event is open to all visitors and is a rare and special invitation to join the K'ómoks people in our Big House. (By donation/limited seating).

1:30pm

Special guests Tom and Jackie Finney will be holding a Drum-Making Workshop in the designated marquee immediately following the Play-Potlatch at 1:30pm. This is a very special opportunity to make your own drum and learn about the drum’s connection to culture, healing and spirituality. Spaces are limited and must be booked in advance. Once again, the K'ómoks First Nation Dancers will perform for the closing of the festival

Getting to the Festival Grounds

Due to very limited parking, we recommend using the Park and Ride service from the Comox Recreation Centre at:

The bus will be available all day to and from the festival starting at the Comox Recreation Centre at 11:15 am until all guests have been returned to their vehicles.
